What Colours Go with a Blue-Grey Shirt?

ATELIER EDIT editors · 17 October 20263 min read

A blue-grey shirt can refresh an outfit built from black, grey or brown. Treat mist blue as a family of colours rather than an exact code: the right combination depends on the pieces in front of you and the mood you prefer.

01 / Charcoal for a cool combination

Wear the shirt with a charcoal coat and black trousers, leaving a little blue visible at the neckline. If the contrast feels too subdued, introduce a light grey knit rather than a second strong colour. Keep accessories simple while you work out which amount of blue feels natural to you.

02 / Camel for a warmer contrast

Blue-grey and camel create a gentle contrast between cool and warm tones. Try dark denim or chocolate trousers below. If the brown is especially rich, a little cream can give the colours some space. You do not need all three shades in equal amounts; one can be the main colour and the others smaller supporting details.

03 / Cream for a lighter outfit

For milder autumn days, try a blue-grey shirt with cream trousers and a neutral outer layer. Check the combination near a window, because warm indoor light can change the appearance of blue and brown. Save a note of an outfit you enjoyed rather than relying on a photograph to reproduce every shade perfectly on another screen.
